Fishing Report 12/01/2017

November was a month of excellent trout fishing across Western North Carolina. We finally achieved the lower night time temperatures that the area lacked throughout October to really kick start the trout’s typical behavior. With November over, we are still experiencing ideal water temperatures and with daily temperatures reaching the upper 50’s to mid 60’s and low 30’s at night. Blue Winged Olives have been hatching in the mid afternoon consistently throughout the past week. Olive nymphs and olive soft hackles have been a great option on a dry dropper setup. The colder mornings have been successful when nymph fishing, stoneflies and pheasant tails have been a great option on the Tuckaseegee river delayed harvest sections. Streamers have also been productive for finding the bigger fish in the rivers, Sculpzillas and Wooly Buggers have been the meal ticket as of late. December is notorious for low temps throughout the day, but if the weather stays consistent we will have an incredible early winter fishing season.
