January Fishing Report
Snowy days ahead as we face our coldest month of the year, January. Sluggish fish with an emphasis on the Tuck for the fishing report this month. Smoky Mountain water temps in the mid 30s have fish on the creeks pretty sleepy. Best places to target are deeper pools or the Tuck. The Tuck water does run a bit warmer being that the water is coming from the dams. Small black stoneflies are the ticket this time of the year, but you have to get the fly right in front of the fish. I have seen fish in the Spring and fall swim 30 feet or more to eat a fly of choice. When it is this cold - you must put it on a platter for them and get the drift right in front of the fish.
Thinking ahead to February, we see temps turn the corner and see 60 degree days start to come into vue on the forecast. If you are able to catch a warm day in February you will experience many Springtime hatches and enjoy fish to the net on dry flies and have the creek to yourself.
Look at booking a trip for Valentines, or Presidents Day weekends to start the 2025 Angling year off right!
